Congratulations to Federico Garcia and Alia Music who will launch a one-day new music festival sometime around Memorial Day 2014. According to the Post-Gazette,
“The performance will happen over one day, at a supermarket, a park, a bank. It is one show, but the audience members will change throughout the day, depending on who happens to be grocery shopping or depositing checks at any given moment. One scene will take place at night, in a bar.”
The innovative festival will include two operas: Robert Ashley’s Perfect Lives and John Luther Adams’ Inuksuit, a piece including 99 percussionists that will be performed in Frick Park. Performers will also include the Bugallo-Williams Piano Duo and NYC’s Varispeed Collective.
The festival will be made possible by a $35,000 grant from the Heinz Endowments.
Stayed tuned for more details right in this space.
