Paul Giallorenzo is a Chicago-based improviser, composer, and sound designer using piano, synthesizer, and electronics in a wide variety of groups and contexts, ranging from jazz and improvised music to electro-acoustic / noise. He has been funded by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Swiss Benevolence Society, and has performed in Europe, Brazil and throughout the US, including a 2010 appearance at the Chicago Jazz Festival. He is also the producer, organizer, co-founder, and director of the art gallery/music venue Elastic, producing hundreds of creative music concerts in Chicago since 2001.

Tonight, Giallorenzo will be performing with GITGO, a quintet featuring Mars Williams on saxophone (Vandermark 5, Hal Russell NRG Ensemble, Liquid Soul, Brotzmann Tentet, etc.), Jeb Bishop on trombone (Vandermark 5, Flying Luttenbachers, Brotzmann Tentet, etc.), Anton Hatwich on bass and Quin Kirchner on drums. The group has three releases: one on Giallorenzo’s own 482 label, “Emergent” on Leo Records in 2012, and the latest album, “Force Majeure” which came out on Delmark in May.

Paul was here in Pittsburgh previously playing with Dave Bernabo at Wood Street Gallery in 2011, with the group
Breakaway at Monk’s (now defunct) in 2009, and at Garfield
Artworks with the duo Masul in 2007.
